CORE Program Named Residency Program of the Year
Doctors Hospital Family Practice Residency program honored by AOF
ATHENS, Ohio — The Doctors Hospital (Columbus) Family Practice Residency program was recently awarded the inaugural Merck/Schering-Plough Clinical Assessment Program (CAP) Residency Program of the Year by the American Osteopathic Foundation (AOF).
The Merck/Schering-Plough CAP Residency Program of the Year Award rewards an accredited family practice or internal medicine osteopathic residency program that has demonstrated excellence for teaching quality improvement in patient care in the areas of diabetes or coronary artery disease (CAD). It also honors a residency program that is utilizing CAP in their postdoctoral training program to demonstrate the importance of quality improvement in improving patient care for those suffering from diabetes or CAD.
“The CAP Residency Program of the Year Award recognized the hard work and dedication of all our residents over the past seven years. We have worked together to increase the quality of the scholarly research projects and improve the care that we deliver to our patients at the Family Practice Center using the American Osteopathic Association’s Clinical Assessment Program,” said William Burke, D.O., director of the Doctors Hospital Family Practice Residency.
“Our program is fortunate to have the full support of our parent institution, a state-of-the-art family practice office, dedicated full-time physician faculty, a full-time pharmacist and behaviorist, and outstanding residents and staff.”
Doctors Hospital is a member of the Centers for Osteopathic Research and Education (CORE) system.
Burke received the award at the AOF Honors Ceremony, which was held during the American Osteopathic Association Annual Convention and Scientific Seminar in San Diego, Calif., on September 30.
“Recognition by the American Osteopathic Foundation reinforced the fact that our residents and our program are doing the right things as we fulfill both missions of the Doctors Hospital Family Practice Residency: to train and prepare outstanding osteopathic family physicians for successful careers and to provide quality osteopathic medical care to our patients,” said Burke.
