CORE Resident Receives National Literary Award
Martin is the recipient of the prestigious Robert C. Irwin Award
ATHENS, Ohio — Eric D. Martin, D.O., was awarded first place in the 2007 American College of Osteopathic Surgeons Robert C. Irwin Literary Competition for his paper, “A Comparison of Bilateral Neck Exploration (BNE) and Minimally Invasive Radio-Guided Parathyroidectomy (MIRP) for the Treatment of Primary Hyperparathyroidism: Which is the Gold Standard?”
The Centers for Osteopathic Research and Education (CORE) Research Office, located at Ohio University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine, supported and assisted Martin with his paper, which he completed during his residency at Doctors Hospital in Columbus. Grace Brannan, Ph.D., director of the CORE Research Office, was excited to hear about Martin’s award.
“We are extremely pleased to learn about Dr. Martin’s Award,” Brannan said. “The CRO team, Doctors Office for Research and Education (DORE), and Dr. Martin worked hand-in-hand in developing this study. This is one example of how combined efforts can result in high quality research studies.”
A 1994 graduate of the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Martin completed his general surgery residency at Doctors Hospital in 2007. Doctors Hospital is a member of the CORE system.
Martin is currently the chief of general surgery in the United States Army at Ft. Irwin, Calif.
