CORE Graduate Named Outstanding Resident of the Year
OU-COM alumna Rettos receives 2007 Merck Outstanding Resident of the Year Award from AOF

ATHENS, Ohio — Jean Rettos, D.O., a 2004 graduate of Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine, was recently named one of four recipients of the 2007 Merck Outstanding Resident of the Year award by the American Osteopathic Foundation (AOF).

“I am quite honored and very grateful to have received this award,” Rettos said.

Rettos recently completed her family practice residency at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens, where she served as chief resident. O’Bleness is a member of the Centers for Osteopathic Research and Education (CORE) system.

During her residency, Rettos conducted research on childhood obesity in Athens County. Her results were used by one local school in its grant application for physical education equipment.

The Merck Outstanding Resident of the Year Award recognizes and honors outstanding osteopathic residents who go above and beyond professional obligations to bring a sense of pride to the profession by exhibiting the exemplary characteristics of an osteopathic physician. The recipient of this award must display the following during his or her residency:

Rettos received her award and a monetary prize of $5,000 at the AOF Honors Ceremony, which was held in conjunction with the American Osteopathic Association Annual Convention and Scientific Seminar in San Diego, Calif., on September 30.

Rettos currently practices family medicine in Athens.
