Do you need a checklist for orientation?
If so, you can easily create a checklist using a feature in the New Innovations Residency Suite under Personnel Data. This feature is a great way to track information to ensure you have a complete file.
A checklist will help you make sure you receive a copy of the medical school diploma, BLS and ACLS cards, immunizations and updated addresses.
To learn more about the checklist feature, call Pam Royston at 740-597-1377 or e-mail to Royston@oucom.ohiou.edu.
Data Collection for OPTI Report
CORE is required to submit an annual report to the AOA summarizing the activities of the academic year as well as tracking the progress of the core competencies within our separate institutions.
Each member hospital will be asked for faculty information and an annual report of the institutional core competency plan. Data collection forms will be sent to each hospital in May.
Institutional core competency reports need to be sent to Pam Royston at Royston@oucom.ohiou.edu by Aug. 1.
Barreiro among first inducted as a Fellow of the National Academy of Osteopathic Medical Educators
Timothy J. Barreiro, D.O. (’97), clinical assistant professor of internal medicine at St. Joseph Health Center (Warren, Ohio), was inducted into the inaugural class of the National Academy of Osteopathic Medical Educators (NAOME) Friday, April 17.
The induction took place at the awards banquet of the 2009 annual meeting for the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine in Maryland.
NAOME was created by the American Academy of Osteopathic Educators to develop a community of outstanding osteopathic medical educators who have met rigorous standards of academic scholarship. Each Academy Fellow serves as a leader and mentor for academic scholarship in the osteopathic medical education profession for a five-year period.
Remember: Use new innovations to provide personnel data
In order to reduce the number of data requests from CORE to its member hospitals, there is a minimum requirement to populate personnel data by July 1, 2009.
This step will help GME offices submit their Trainee Information Verification Registration Audit (TIVRA) electronically and also provide information to the RPAC offices. So don’t wait--now is the time to start using New Innovations, the internet-based software for residency tracking. Remember also, you can download information right from the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) to get a head start!
For more information on NI, call Pam Royston at 740-597-1377 or Royston@oucom.ohiou.edu.

Guidelines available for effectively evaluating trainees
Timely and systematic evaluation completes the learning cycle. It provides the learner with a yardstick by which to compare his or her performance to a predetermined standard. Evaluation is most meaningful when it provides the trainee with a summary of the information the preceptor has collected through previous observations and shared in earlier feedback sessions.
For more information on the five phases of an effective evaluation, check out the evaluation module at http://www.ohiocore.org/gfx/media/contribute/PresentationSkills.pdf.
