On Saturday, July 21, 2007, the CORE Research Office initiated the Train-the-Trainers in Research Fellowship Program to strengthen the research infrastructure within the CORE system. The program orientation took place at the Columbus Marriott Northwest in Dublin, Ohio. The six-hour session provided an overview of research and the importance of mentoring, as well as a workshop to help the program participants begin defining their research projects.
Five attending physicians from around the state will participate in this year-long research experience that will require them to complete a research study. Thomas Carter, D.O., from Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, Nicholas Espinoza, D.O., from St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, Marisha Lucero, M.D., from St. Joseph Health Center in Warren, and Chris Tidwell from Grandview Medical Center in Dayton took part in the one-day orientation.

As part of orientation, the participants viewed the recorded presentation by Timothy Barreiro, D.O., “Mentorship and Collaboration: Key to Scholarly Work and Publication Success.” As well, Karen Thomas, D.O., spoke on the state of research in the osteopathic profession.
The orientation concluded with a roundtable discussion of each participant’s intended research project facilitated by the CORE Research Office Director, Grace Brannan, Ph.D., and the CRO Editor/Writer, Michael Weiser.
Joseph Baker, D.O., from MetroHealth Health Center in Cleveland, joined the program after the orientation.
