Mission Statement

The Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery Residency Programs Advisory Committee (ORL-HNS RPAC) is a statewide alliance of University-affiliated, community based otolaryngology, head, and neck specialists, program directors, educators and administrators dedicated to the training of osteopathic ORL-HNS physicians.  We collaborate to preserve and protect the integrity and identity of osteopathic ORL-HNS residencies.  We maintain standards of excellence, develop educational strategies, share resources, promote quality, and provide systems of education that emphasize a patient-centered holistic approach.

The purpose of the ORL-HNS RPAC is to promote and develop quality osteopathic education goals for otolaryngology, head/neck surgeons, promote statewide collaborative efforts utilizing available resources, and to serve as link/liaisons to the Osteopathic College of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery and Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine in quality development of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgeons.

The ORL-HNS RPAC accomplishes its purpose and goals through a residency consortium involving collaboration, innovation, evaluation, total quality management and affiliation with Ohio University.  The philosophy governing the ORL-HNS Residency Programs Advisory Committee embodies the pursuit of excellence, commitment of faculty to education, respect for residents and colleagues, the importance of mentors and role models and the conviction that superior educational programs are developed and maintained only through sustained effort by all involved parties.

Our CORE values include commitments to:

  • Promoting Osteopathic principles and practices
  • Managed care
  • Ready availability of doctors
  • Access to specialists
  • Education of the general public and other health professionals regarding what the profession is about
  • Helping residents make adjustment from academic training to clinical practice
  • Promoting fellowship with other clinical specialties
  • The business aspect of medicine
  • Being proactive in our approach to identifying problems and work toward plausible solutions
  • Combining resources of trainees to promote the highest level of patient care
  • Working toward making our specialty health care accessible to those who cannot afford
  • Encouraging and expecting life-long and continuing independent medical education.

We are accountable to our patients, hospitals, Ohio University and its Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (OU-HCOM) the Osteopathic College of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery (OCOOHNS), the American Osteopathic Association, the CORE system, residents, hospitals, and the general public in the State of Ohio.   We preserve and strengthen osteopathic ORL-HNS residencies by listening to needs, meeting demands, complying with standards established by governing bodies, integrating practices when developing goals, implementing programs designed to meet these goals, and integrating elements like OMM and managed care into the curriculum and training of residents.

With philosophies and values rooted in principles and values of holistic osteopathic medical care, we strive for excellence and compassionate care, while instilling professionalism among program directors and residents.
