Mission Statement

The Orthopedics Residency Programs Advisory Committee (OR RPAC) is an alliance of community-based osteopathic orthopedic surgeons, residency directors, educators and administrators who collaborate to preserve the integrity of osteopathic orthopedic residency programs by maintaining standards of excellence, sharing resources, promoting quality patient care and supporting academic programs.

The purpose of the Orthopedics Residency Program Advisory Committee is to enable our residences to continue to meet or exceed the standards of the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics (AOAO) and the requirements of the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery (AOBOS).  This process involves a consortium approach, standardized curricula, continuous evaluation, excellence in academics and affiliation with the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine (OU-COM).  The philosophy governing the Orthopedics Residency Programs Advisory Committee embodies respect for residents and colleagues, commitment of faculty to education, and conviction that superior educational programs are developed and maintained through sustained effort by all involved parties.  We will support and guide our unique residency programs through commitment to osteopathic principles and practices and by exploring new avenues of financial support for orthopedic education.

Our core values include commitments to:

• Maintaining an osteopathic identity in general orthopedic surgery residency education;
• Educating osteopathic physicians in primary care orthopedics;
• Providing the patients in our communities with the highest quality orthopedic care;
• Supporting effective academic, clinical and research programs in orthopedics;
• Promoting faculty and curriculum development;
• Maintaining an appropriate balance between education, service and research;
• Serving as role models and mentors for our students, interns, and residents.

We are accountable to our hospitals, Ohio University and its College of Osteopathic Medicine, the State of Ohio, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), students, interns, residents, and colleagues.  We will preserve and strengthen osteopathic orthopedic residency education, promote quality educational research and enhance the care rendered to patients in our communities.
